Limestone, being a fairly soft and porous stone can easily become scratched and stained in areas of high foot traffic and frequent use. A regular maintenance program is vital if limestone is to retain its original beauty.

Special care is required when cleaning limestone. Limestone should be sealed with a high quality penetrating impregnating sealer. Unsealed or weakly sealed limestone will soak up oils, spills, and stains. To check whether your limestone is sealed, leave a few drops of water on the surface. If after a few minutes the water has soaked into the limestone, then it's time to reseal the stone.

Spills should be cleaned immediately. You should generally use only warm water and a mild detergent on your limestone floors and never use vinegar on limestone. The acid in vinegar can seriously damage and actually etch and remove the surface of limestone. After mopping, dry the floor with a cotton towel or use a sh-mop to remove the moisture and prevent water spots. Always dry your limestone floors as they spot very easily.

A penetrating impregnating transparent sealer enters the pores of your limestone and, once cured will not change the look of the tile or stone whereas a penetrating colour enhancing sealer is designed to enhance and enrich the natural look of stone surfaces.
